The counterpart type software, Dinamo has hardware
Dinamo is a contemporary type foundry and consultancy based in Berlin, but with a network of contributors operating all over the globe. Dinamo has built an exceptionally large community around its work – with over 100k followers on Instagram alone — and so it made perfect sense for the company to launch a line of merch to bring an additional layer of branding (and revenue) into the picture.
The Project
We first worked with the Dinamo team on a small drop last year, but our second project with them was more ambitious — the “A Fiction” hoodie features two of Dinamo’s signature typefaces printed onto a midnight navy hoodie. The hoodie is accompanied by a risograph printed short story by the dystopian author and novelist Missouri Williams.
Dinamo has been experimenting with merch for a while now, and at first they had to run the whole production themselves, buying low-quality blanks and then getting them printed with a local screen printer. This is a problem agencies and non-fashion brands regularly face — it makes perfect sense for them to expand into merchandise from a branding and business perspective, but they don’t have the skills and knowledge required to produce great apparel.
Of course, that’s what Assembly’s is here to solve. By working with our online studio, Dinamo had access to everything they needed to put their designs into production at the click of a button, while all of the costs were calculated in real time — with no hidden fees to speak of. Dinamo’s graphics were supplemented with a bespoke neck label, while the pieces were folded and individually packaged, as is standard for all Assembly orders.
And as always, the results speak for themselves — an effortless process that resulted in great designs produced on our high quality, 100% organic cotton blanks, developed by the same supply chain used by brands like Supreme, Stussy and Balenciaga. Our blanks’ unrivaled quality gives brands like Dinamo the confidence to sell at a premium price point, while our agile supply chain can supply volumes from small drops of 50 pieces all the way up to full productions of thousands of units.
You can see how the quality of Assembly blanks has really supported Dinamo’s overall merchandising vision — or “Hardware” as they call it. Our premium garments sit comfortably alongside the studio’s more unusual products, like pencils, office mugs and candles. It just goes to show how far you can go when you have the right tools available to bring your wildest merch dreams to life!
